Choosing a passion blog topic was difficult.
Don't get me wrong, I like many things. BUT, every time I would think of a blog theme, I couldn't imagine having enough to say to keep it alive for this entire semester.
After much thought, the only idea that interested me was travelling. I love the idea of a travel blog and, what a coincidence, I love to travel. I consider traveling to be one of my interests and a topic on which I could articulate thoughts and opinions worth expressing on the internet. That being said, I will stick to this theme and explain two potential ways of presenting it in my passion blog.
1.) The travel idea first struck me as an experience blog, in which I would describe the events of trips I've taken in the past. This blog would rehash the thoughts, experiences, highlights, and low-lights of the trips to Europe, South and Central America that I've taken in the recent past. My clumsy, sarcastic, and absent minded self has made for some rather amusing stories as I've traveled abroad, and could make for an interesting and long winded story that encumbers a passion of mine.
2) I also found that I could make a travel blog about the future. This blog would be more along the lines of a "bucket list," in which, in each entry, I write about a new place (varying in specificity; country, city, event, etc.) to which I would like to travel when I'm rich and famous. I am definitely favoring this mode of presentation because it would allow me to be more creative in my blog posts and also be the excuse I need to research and record the places I want to see before I kick it (the bucket, that is.)
Well first i would like to comment on your writing style.Your way of writing really made it readable for college students as you probably have had experience with blogs or magazines that are either extremely juvenile or seem to be written for a senior citizen. Also, I like the idea of your second topic of choice. It would be interesting to see the many places that you would like to eventually visit and maybe it will give students in our class an idea of some places they too would like to visit.
ReplyDeleteI really like both of your ideas, and I don't necessarily think you have to choose between the two. Maybe your first post can be about where you've been and what you liked or didn't like about it. Then the next week you can follow up with a place you want to go that might have similar traditions as the place you blogged about the week before. That might give you even more to write about, and in case you blank one week on what to write about, you always have another option. Either way you do it though, I think you have an interesting idea!
ReplyDeleteRebecca, I love the idea of a travel blog. Also, I feel that both your ideas are very strong. However, I do believe that your first option about writing about places that you've experienced and been to, will be much easier than writing about places that are on your "bucket list". Also, you could put in the blog pictures that you took at these places. Overall, I think it's much easier to write about things you've experienced.
ReplyDeleteI think that both of these ideas leave you a lot of information to cover which is good since we are going to have to write about these topics for a whole semester. From what I can see from your writing so far, I feel like hearing about your past experiences while traveling would be really funny. However, I feel like you will be able to be much more creative with the second option though. Either way, I think you have two really good options since there is a lot to write about and traveling seems to be a passion of yours.
ReplyDeleteRebeca, I agree with Celeste's comment that perhaps you could merge the themes and discuss both places you've been and places you still wish to see. (Either way, you'll be focusing on travel, which seems to be the important part.)
ReplyDeleteOne consideration that might help to shape your decision/approach is your audience. What do you want them to get from your posts? Do you want them to see the travels you've already done through your eyes, or do you want to help them dream about places that you (and perhaps they) might eventually want to explore?
Travel blogs seem especially ripe for the use of pictures where applicable, so that might be a nice touch.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
The idea of traveling is a very fun topic, hearing about places you have been and the places you wish to explore is something I look forward to reading.
